Description of Work THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN EDGECOMBE COUNTY This position is the first point of contact for criminal offenders reporting for their probation appointments. Position will provide clerical support to Chief Probation/Parole Officer(s) and the employees therein consisting primarily of Probation/Parole Officers. The mission of Community Corrections is to protect the safety of citizens in communities throughout the state by providing viable alternatives and meaningful supervision to offenders on probation, parole or post-release supervision. The primary goal of Community Corrections is to reach an equal balance of control and treatment for offenders that will positively affect their behavior and lifestyle patterns. Probation /parole officers protect the public safety by helping offenders learn to live within the law. They supervise offenders' activities in the community and ensure their compliance with court orders and sanctions. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NC DPS), the largest state agency with more than 26,000 employees, is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its residents through prevention, protection, and preparation. We have a mission that matters! This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withbenefits. The recruitment range for this position is $31,200 to $34,320. The salary grade for this position is GN05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be calculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability and internal equity. Based on these factors, a pay increase or decrease may result. The primary duties of the Administrative Associate II are to: * Monitor offender waiting areas * Answer basic inquiries from offenders * Direct offenders to the appropriate personnel * Direct all incoming visitors via telephone or face-to-face With limited instruction from supervisor, the Administrative Associate II will electronically compose the following using Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail: * Memoranda * Letters * Official court documents * Investigatory reports * Statistical reports Position will proofread documents for spelling, grammar and punctuation, input and comprehend computer-generated data. Position will analyze, reconcile, and compile monthly reports with specified time frames to include but not limited to unit statistical reports, stamp logs, mileage logs, phone bills and copy machine reports. The Administrative Associate II works under stressful conditions to meet daily and monthly deadlines. Position will receive and process mail and conduct inventory of equipment. Effectively maintain files and records according to departmental policy to provide quick, easy access and retrieval of information. Must be able to effectively and accurately operate various office machines to include computer, calculator, fax and copy machine. Incumbent often works alone in confined areas. The Administrative Associate II will assist the District Administrative Specialist I when requested. Management prefers: * Experience working in a legal, criminal justice or court related environment, * Degree in Business Management or Criminal Justice, * Experience with MS Office applications (Word and Excel) May be required to obtain Notary Public certification. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
