Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a theoretical foundation in the principles and practices of leadership development theory and application desired. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations. Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends; commitment to teamwork and collaboration. Job Duties: The Assistant Director works as a member of a team supporting student development through a series of leadership and civic engagement programs designed to assist students in fostering the skills, knowledge, competencies, and values necessary to become effective leaders and citizens. The programs and initiatives offer students basic skills training as well as opportunities for personal growth, networking, and capacity building that provide a foundation for ethical action and commitment throughout their lives. Responsibilities may include: oversight of leadership academies, youth programming and outreach, community partnerships, service-learning course support, leadership-focused scholarship programs, and ECU Leads. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director and supervises an AmeriCorps VISTA professional, as well as student staff. This person also works with service-learning students to identify appropriate service-learning sites and community partners, and supports faculty to ensure communication of logistics and relevant information on service-learning sites through in-class presentations and/or individual consultations. The Assistant Director supports integrative learning experiences through effective planning, implementation and assessment of current initiatives, and develops additional experiences that foster responsible citizenship. This is a professional position with responsibilities having a direct impact on the quality of students' educational experiences and interaction with their peers, as well as the campus community at large. Additionally, this position requires a strong knowledge of university budgetary practices, service-learning, leadership education, community engagement, problem-solving skills, independent decision-making and critical thinking skills are necessary PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This person will work with the Associate Director to provide administrative oversight and development for the coordination of ECU Leads, a three year co-curricular and curricular leadership program, oversight of leadership academies, youth programming and outreach, community partnerships, service-learning course support, leadership-focused scholarship programs, and other initiatives. This person will assist the Associate Director in promoting service-learning and leadership development in the classroom by supporting orientations to new faculty, departments, and other participants in various ECU schools and colleges. Responsibilities include assisting with training faculty to integrate service-learning and leadership development into their courses, providing workshops, consultation, and access to regional and national conference opportunities. The successful candidate will support organization and implementation of service-learning faculty education programs. The Assistant Director will support recruitment and selection of community partners and serve as liaison for the center. This person may serve as a staff lead on Alternative Break Experience trips. To remain current on best practices, this person will engage in ongoing professional development related to service-learning, leadership education, community-campus partnerships, etc. OTHER DUTIES: Attend in-services, gatherings and meetings of the Division of Student Affairs and other professional development opportunities, especially those offered by Human Resources. Keep current with leadership development, community/civic engagement, and service-learning theory, methods, publications, and initiatives. Engage in individual and group advising to help students achieve more effective social, personal, professional, and educational development. Advise students on university policies and procedures. Serve on various Student Affairs and university wide committees. Provide on-site coordination and supervision during programs/events. Develop evaluation instruments and prepare summative reports for each program. Work as part of a team to advance the mission of the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement.
