SpecialistSummary:The Home Health Coding Specialist is responsible
for reviewing admission, recertification, or resumption of care
comprehensive assessments (OASIS) to appropriately assign/sequence
ICD-9 diagnosis & procedure codes.Essential Job Functions:

2. Creates positive experiences for internal and external customers
that will meet their expectations. (Externalcustomers include our
patients, families, referral sources, vendors, the community, etc.
Internal customers are thepeople within the agency with whom you
work.) Displays a high degree of courtesy, tact, and knowledge
ofservices provided by the agency in all contact with staff,
patients, and visitors.
3. Completes activities of Home Health Coding Specialist: (a)
reviews and utilizes clinical documentation provided byphysicians,
other healthcare providers, and the OASIS to determine primary,
secondary, and co-morbiditiesdiagnoses based on the condition that
is most related to the current plan of care; (b) reviews and
utilizesdocumentation that supports the ICD-cm code number
assignment for correct reimbursement and outcomes forpatients, (c)
reviews documentation to accurately and completely assign diagnosis
code number and (d) notifiesclinical office staff by e-mail when
corrections/additions, or locking of document is needed. 4.
Communicates pertinent issues related to diagnosis code assignment
to the Director of Professional SupportServices and participates in
Performance improvement review audits related to accuracy of plan
of care asrequested by the Performance Improvement Department.
5. Keeps up to date on diagnosis coding guidance, regulations, and
rules for Home Health. Maintains and increasesown knowledge and
skills by attending education programs and reading home health and
hospice codingresources.
6. Complete daily reports to submit reviews to billing office;
weekly transmits OASIS Assessments and prints final validation
reports.
7. Demonstrates an interest in personal and professional growth:
(a) attends and participates in workshops, seminars,and webcasts to
keep abreast of current changes in rules, regulations, relating to
job functions; and (b) doesindividual reading and research.
8. Demonstrates a willingness to be cost effective in the use of
agency resources, the monitoring of waste, and theproper and safe
use of supplies and equipment.
9. Adheres to 3HC's Personnel Policy and performs other duties as
assigned by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: • Home Health Coding
(HCS-D) certification or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
preferred. • At least one year experience in health care related
field with ICD diagnosis coding experience. • Knowledge of medical
terminology with a complete knowledge and understanding of
Diagnosis coding quidelines andcompliance requirements. • Ability
to apply CMS Home Health Diagnosis Coding Guidance. Ability to
complete review of documentation in the electronic health record
and to make modifications to diagnosis codesbased on documentation
from physician and clinician.
