Job Description:
Position Summary The School of Government is seeking a tenure
track assistant professor of public law and government to
specialize in family law. The faculty member will be the School’s
point person on family law issues for the State’s district court
judges. This faculty member will advise and teach district court
judges as well as magistrates, clerks of superior court, and other
judicial personnel. The person’s areas of expertise will include
child custody and child support, divorce, alimony, equitable
distribution, contracts between spouses, contempt, civil domestic
violence protective orders, and civil no-contact orders of
protection. Working in collaboration with colleagues, this faculty
member will create, administer, and provide instruction in courses
offered through the North Carolina Judicial College, as well as in
orientation programs and conferences offered through the School’s
partnership with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the
Courts. This faculty member will engage in research and writing in
the substantive areas mentioned above and will be responsible for
the regular update and revision of The North Carolina Trial Judges’
Bench Book, Family Law Edition. Preferred Qualifications,
Competencies, And Experience At least three years of experience in
family law is preferred.
