Description of Work
Salary Grade: GN06 / Salary Range: $31,200.00 - $48,058.00.
Internal Posting - Only current permanent full-time, permanent
part-time, probationary, trainee, or time-limited NCDOT employees
or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation
eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described
by General Statute (GS) 126 (State Personnel Act) may apply.This
posting is for a Transportation Worker III. Work involves operating
farm type tractors with attachments, including A-Boom/Long arm
Mowers; highly specialized landscape equipment including computer
controlled pesticide applicators, hydroseeders and mulch blowers.
Employees may also be required to inspect contract mowing, seeding
and landscape operations performed by others. This position will be
subject to emergency callback during adverse weather or extreme
circumstances. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work
experience that demonstrates the following:
- Knowledge of vegetation management including but not limited to
shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural
- Experience in applying herbicides to control weeds and
- Experience in operation of pesticide applicator, truck,
tractors, and utility vehicles.
- Experience in at least one piece of Category B equipment
(asphalt distributor, front end loader, dump truck, tractor "A"
boom mower, mulch blower, sod seeder, tractor with sprayer
attachments, brush chipper, conventional pesticide applicator,
front end loader, hydroseeder, skid steer).
- Experience operating equipment designed for all aspects of
Ability to operate assigned equipment effectively and safely.
Ability to follow, understand and carry out instructions. Keep
accurate records of work accomplished. Safely operate state
vehicle. Ability to lift and/or carry 80 lbs. Valid NCDA&CS
Right of Way Pesticide license is preferred and will be required
within 90 calendar days of employment. Safety toe footwear is
required. Must operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North
Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N)
endorsement. Applicant will be given 60 days to obtain a Class A
CDL Permit and 90 days from date of hire to receive a Class A CDL
Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Pre-employment drug
testing is required for this position. As a condition of
employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and background statement
(ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with
previous employers for the past two years about controlled
substances and alcohol testing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and five
years of experience operating equipment directly related to the
area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and
experience Necessary Special Requirements Possession of a current
Commercial Driver s License is mandatory for essential duties. CDL
can be obtained through on-the-job training with a 60 day grace
period to obtain a CDL Permit and 90 days to obtain a License.
