PurposeTo lead automation team to perform detailed control system design and software development for moderately complex engineering assignments, which are stand-alone, or components of a larger project.--This position applies specific knowledge of automated and process control systems to manufacturing processes with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure--safety of all team members working in automation operating unit by driving continuous improvement towards a true safety culture; including supporting all corporate safety programs; developing SOP's identifying and eliminating hazards, and enforcing all safety rules
  • Ensure compliance and perform all duties in accordance with all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations
  • Develop and implement results oriented, value-added engineering solutions that achieve predetermined project goals and customer needs and/or requirements
  • Develop project documentation using corporate engineering standards, specifications, prints, and schematics
  • Lead team members within the automation department
  • Responsible for training, performance management and communication of work schedules and daily work assignments; including duties from staff and self-development, coaching, counseling on performance feedback, up to initiating and assisting with corrective action
  • Develop detailed design of automation and process control systems that integrate PCs, PLCs, variable speed drives, motion control, and related process control systems
  • Work closely with corporate engineering controls team and manufacturing IT team on implementing the latest standards on automation and data reporting systems
  • Integrate statistical control components into system design including basic control charting,--real time & historical trending, remote monitoring and data acquisition / control
  • Develop, configure and debug control system programming including PLC's, OT--networks, HMI and/or specialty component software
  • Implement standard engineering and project management practices consistently throughout project and work assignments
  • Maintain technical skills and knowledge by attending seminars, webinars and other relevant related events
  • Investigate new technology with corporate engineering, consulting engineers, and equipment vendors
  • Lead development and training efforts of field operation and maintenance personnel in the design features, process operation, interpretation of system information, and application of that information regarding control system functionality
  • Witness testing of new automation systems, and oversight of on-site acceptance testing of machine control systems
  • Train, coach and mentor plant electricians on control systems, instrumentation and other related systems
  • Monitor installation quality
  • Perform other duties as necessary

    Required Qualifications
    • Three (3) + years' experience in automation and process control systems and techniques
    • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy--
    • Ability to work in a highly functional team environment
    • Working knowledge of industry technological developments and best practices
    • Understanding of effective and efficient production and manufacturing methods
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Good project management skills
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field or equivalent--
      • Experience in wood products facilities
      • Prior experience leading a team
