Description:As the Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial
role in promoting and ensuring a safe working environment for all
employees. You will be responsible for implementing safety
protocols, conducting regular inspections, and fostering a culture
of safety awareness. Your expertise will help us maintain
compliance with safety regulations and enhance our commitment to
employee well-being.
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure
a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify
potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety
regulations.
- Coordinate and lead safety training sessions for employees,
including new hire orientations and ongoing education.
- Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near
misses, analyzing root causes and recommending corrective
actions.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, including records of
incidents, inspections, and training activities.
- Collaborate with management and staff to promote a culture of
safety and address safety concerns and suggestions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety
regulations and standards.
- Monitor and review safety data to identify trends and recommend
improvements.
- Facilitate emergency response planning and conduct regular
emergency drills and exercises.
- Liaise with external agencies and inspectors regarding
safety-related matters and inspections.
- Coordinate the maintenance and availability of safety equipment
and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Develop and implement risk assessment processes to proactively
identify and mitigate hazards.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and emerging safety
technologies.
- Additional duties as required.
- --- Take immediate steps to modify unsafe practices and elicit
required personnel to address housekeeping and unsafe conditions
noted.--- Participate in the pre-startup safety review of equipment
or processes in conjunction with Engineering and Operating
personnel.--- Participate in the development of plant specific
safety and hygiene audit programs.--- Participate in the
development and implementation of training programs for plant
management and union personnel in compliance with OSHA regulations
and recognized health hazards.--- Provide assistance in
communicating new systems initiatives or system-related changes for
any Safety and IH systems in use at plant locations and provide
feedback on new initiatives or changes as needed. Requirements:
- Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard
identification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and implement safety policies and
procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management
software
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related
software.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for project
management and reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety,
Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety or similar role
within manufacturing
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management
systems
- Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard
identification
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification
required
- Certification in First Aid and CPR
- Sitting for Extended Periods: The role typically involves
prolonged periods of sitting while working at a desk or
computer.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and other
office equipment for data entry and document preparation.
- Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read computer screens,
reports, and other detailed documents.
- Hearing and Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively with
employees, vendors, and management in person, over the phone, or
during virtual meetings.
- Standing and Walking: Movement is required for attending
meetings, presentations, or interacting with employees in different
office areas.
- OSHA Certification Required
- Light Lifting: Ability to lift and carry materials such as
files, benefits brochures, or small office equipment, generally not
